Athletes are placed in groups by age and ability level of their tumbling skills. Instruction consists of one 2 ½ mandatory practice, with two additional open gyms, totaling up to 7 hours of instruction per day. During mandatory instruction, tumbling is the main focus point while stunting and basket skills are taught utilizing drills and alternate methods. We are proud to maintain a low teacher-to-student ratio of not more than 1:8. There is an additional 4 ½ hours of tumbling in our fully equipped cheer and open gym.
Woodward staff use the latest equipment while applying progressive drills and techniques to teach the stunting aspect of cheer. Twisting belts, resi work, and trampolines, along with the skilled knowledge of our staff combine to provide a curriculum designed to teach aerial awareness and flexibility required by today’s cheerleaders. Group stunting is instructed during night open gyms with cheerleaders forming their own stunt groups at their discretion with coach supervision. Woodward is not responsible for constructing stunt groups.
Campers are housed with other kids their same age and sport. They enjoy country living in rustic cabins with bunk beds and individual storage space. Each cabin is equipped with air conditioning and an adjacent bathroom. A counselor lives in each cabin with our campers to make sure that every one of our guest has a rewarding social and learning experience.
Woodward developed a Youth Camp to assist younger campers aged 7 to 9 in adjusting to camp life. Youth campers have the same schedule, workout opportunities and use of the facilities as our general camp. They do, however, live apart from older campers with a “mini mom” (girls) and “mini dad" (boys) and have an earlier bedtime (9:30). All campers age 9 and under are required to live in the Youth Camp, however older friends may request to stay with them.
Woodward Camp takes great pride in offering Visiting Teams and Visiting Coaches exceptional coaching, clinics and educational opportunities with our staff and special guests, as well as the opportunity to train with their own coaches and athletes during the Open Workout periods. Take full advantage of our facilities for optional workout time whenever our gyms are not utilized for class instruction. Teams of all sizes are welcome but teams of 20 or more athletes will qualify for extra fun and recognition in the form of a pizza party, banners, t-shirts and brochure photos. Contact Tara Shipley at (412) 608-0801 for Cheer teams and coaches.
Coaches who participate in the Visiting Team program can take advantage of daily educational clinics with our staff and VIP’s and work with their athletes in our gyms! Download an application and learn more about our Visiting Coach program at the link below.
